Tabacundo is a small Ecuadorian town; cantonal head of the Pedro Moncayo Canton, as well as the fifth largest and most populated city in the Province of Pichincha. It is located north of the inter-Andean region of Ecuador, in the Guayllabamba river basin, at an altitude of 2877 meters above sea level and with an Andean climate of 15 ° C on average. To the south of this city it crosses the equinoctial line.
A place blessed by the fertility of its lands and acclaimed for its extensive production of roses, it is here where several floricultural companies have established themselves and in addition to offering exclusive roses to the most demanding markets in the world, they provide work for thousands of families.
In 2018, the mayor's office with the help of the people and the community decided to undertake a very valuable project, taking advantage of the fact that the production of roses is their strength, they decided to raise Tabacundo, seeking to position a brand in the Guinness Record, for which they carried out a pyramid built with roses that was built in the Plazoleta de la Banda: a structure 780 meters (m) long and 4.9 m high, in which 660,000 roses were occupied, the structure was assembled in 6 days 00:00 to 00:00 and more than 100,000 roses were placed daily with the help of 40 experts and hundreds of Tobacco citizens.
A project that generated great enthusiasm as it is an opportunity to show the world where the world capital of the rose is located. "For us this is not a flower arrangement, it is a work of art," said Frank Borys Gualsaquí, former mayor of Pedro Moncayo. He also said that thanks to this project the Pedro Moncayo canton has come together and the entire country will also do so.
